Later, Alligator!

You'll have to forgive the awful pics in this post... the computer's down, which means iPhone pics only... boooo!

Just a quick post to show off the custom quilt that I've been working on for the last couple of weeks!  I wish that I had better pics to show you, but I wanted to get this one out the door quickly, so I didn't really want to dilly-dally around with finding the right time and lighting, yadda yadda yadda, to take great photos of it.

The customer who contacted me about this had already done all the heavy lifting - she'd found a pattern that she loved, and had gone out and bought all the supplies.  I was absolutely shocked that she managed to track down the exact same alligator print that was used in the sample quilt in the book!

The name of the pattern was Later, Alligator!  (love that name!!) and it's featured in Alex Anderson's Baby Quilts with Love: 12 Timeless Projects for Today's Nursery.  I have to admit, I think it's the first time that I've ever looked through an Alex Anderson book, and definitely the first time I've sewn any of her projects.  I'm a bit ashamed to say this, because I've always seen her work (mostly online), and I remember watching Simply Quilts when it was on.  I'm glad to have remedied the situation, because I really enjoyed sewing up this pattern!

Making all the flying geese took some time, but after that, the rest of the project came together incredibly fast.  I just did some quilting on the diagonal in the center, so as not to take away from the white pinwheels, and then I did some double loop FMQ on the outer border.  I used a variegated blue from Aurifil to blend in with all the beautiful blues, greens, and purples that the customer sent me to use.

I feel like I can barely take credit for how cute this quilt is - totally not my pattern or fabric selection at all, I just put the pieces together!  It's now winging its way home, where it will be loved on by the customer's first grandbaby.

  2. Oooh I love this quilt! I love the colors of it and how the pinwheels are white. I've been stuck in the mode of making the pinwheels be the color and the background be the white, but you've helped me see a new way! : )
