A whole day dedicated to ... sewing?

So, it's Labor Day, and Twitterland (the Twittersphere? the Twitterverse?) is getting its quilty on in a Labor Day Sew In, or #LDSI.  There are a grand total of 2 things I need to accomplish today:  laundry, and sewing.  Theoretically, I should be able to dedicate the entire day to sewing, with just a few moments here and there swapping clothes from washer to dryer.  The best laid plans...

8:27 am:  Coffee is in hand.  There's no point in trying to sew while uncaffeinated, so I'll just poke around my Google Reader list of new blog posts for a while.

8:31 am:  Making breakfast - bacon and eggs - for the hubby.  This is his birthday right, I'm told, because his birthday celebration lasts 12 days.  We'll see how that math works out when it's my birthday later this month.

8:47 am: Still waiting for bacon to be done.  I'm pretty sure the bacon hubby picked up at the store is about half an inch thick.  Wow.  May as well play some mindless games on the computer while I wait.

9:18 am: Breakfast finally in hand, may as well surf Pinterest while I eat.  Oh, and I think Burgundy Buttons is having a Labor Day sale...

9:33 am: Little brother, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, has called on me to come install a new showerhead so that he can spray his pits without moving his arm.  The things you do for family....  sounds like I need to actually get dressed.

10:30 am: Finally dressed and going to Home Depot. In and out with a slim profile shower head that will hopefully keep my brother from being too stinky!

11:04 am:  At my brothers, installing "Easy to Install in Three Easy Steps!!" shower head, that doesn't really come with instructions.

11:06 am: Getting sprayed with water, and not from the shower head.  Hmm.

11:10 am:  Grrrrrrr.

11:18 am:  Yay! Victory over the showerhead!  Keeping my brother company for a while.  Not sure which is giving him the glazed over look - my attempt at explaining blog linky parties, or the pain meds.

12:25 pm:  En route to a LQS, Three Dudes Quilting, to pick up some thread and 505 Basting Spray.  Hear a country cover of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way."  Flippin' awesome.

1:09 pm:  Finally at home, hubby is running out now to Home Depot (coordination clearly isn't our thing), to pick up drip system supplies.  I'm going to hide in my sewing room - FINALLY! - to avoid having to help.

1:27 pm: Time to decide what to watch while I sew... Kardashians? Real Housewives of NY? Nah, it's a West Wing kind of day...  Going to get to work on finishing a table topper I started last weekend.

2:19 pm:  Made it through the first episode of the 2nd season of the West Wing without totally blubbering all over the place.  The part where Toby finds Josh, shot and crumpled in a heap...   *sob*  Oh, and I'm almost finished with a table runner.  But time for a banana bread break first.

2:48 pm: Table runner top done!

3:04 pm: Next up - a 4 patch quilt using Papillon, up on the design wall and ready to piece into a top!

4:06 pm: About a third of the way done piecing the top. Quick break to get status update on the irrigation situation. Back at it, watching the first episode featuring Ainsley Hayes. Love. It.

4:31 pm: Staaaaaaarving. Must go foraging. Found leftover Costco pasta salad from party - bingo!

5:47 pm: Piecing, piecing, piecing.... Top is sooooo close to being done! Will have to break for laundry and dinner soon. Worst part of three day weekends is that fourth day. Boo.

6:05 pm: Seven more seams before the top is done! Woo Hoo!

6:18 pm: Three seams away, and I am hearing crashing loud bangs downstairs. Either my husband is practicing his Hulk smash, or there's another fly in the kitchen. I'll find out three seams from now.

6:24 pm:  Quilt top is done!  Me and my trusty can of 505 are going to get this bad boy basted and ready to quilt before I call it a night with the sewing.

6:32 pm: Just a fly.  Whew.

6:48 pm:  Paella is almost done!  Quick dip in the pool, and then it's dinner time!

So, was it a true sew in for me?  Not really, but that's totally ok.  I still got a lot of quality time in front of my machine, got to hang with my brother for a bit, awesome food and a dip in the pool - I'd say it was a success!  No laundry done yet, but hey, there's always tomorrow....

  2. Wow, love how you chronicled your #ldsi - very clever. (I was lazy and only did Twitter updates - will have to blog a summary after the fact!) LOVE your four patch - great thought to add the white squares - makes it look extra fancy.

    Thanks so much for sharing!
