Clean dishes and Broken Dishes.

I've spent a lot of time on the blog lately talking about the to-do's of my quilting life.  This weekend, however, I had to spend some time on the other to-do's that pop up in the rest of my world.  You know, things that you should have crossed off the list a while ago - like getting my car's oil changed - somehow stick around - until you're 3000 miles overdue.  Oops.

But amidst doing the regular chores, like washing the dishes, I managed to find some broken dishes.

No, nothing so dramatic as actual broken dishes.  (Though I did learn the hard way that one of my plastic tumblers has a crack in the bottom, but I digress...)  I found a little quilting inspiration, Sunday morning, on Pinterest (of course!).  I saw a little sketch/mockup of some Broken Dishes blocks. It turn out, it was a part of a Broken Dishes quilt along over at Ariane quilts, which I'm about a year late for.  Regardless, the quilt I needed to make popped right into my head.

I managed to get a charm pack of La Petite Ecole turned into a whole slew of HST's, and got them all pressed and sewed together in pairs.

Even while screaming at the TV for my fantasy football players to CATCH THE DANG BALL!!!!!, I got them all ready to make into lovely blocks.  This will be a simple baby quilt - just the blocks, with no sashing or borders - to show off the block design.  I still have to sew a few of them together, but I couldn't resist stitching just a few to see what they would look like!

As a result of working on this block most of Sunday morning, I now have Rihanna's song "Breakin' Dishes" stuck in my head.  It's a great ticked-off-at-your-man song.  "I'm roasting marshmallows on the fire//and what I'm burning is your attire."  Hee hee.

Incidentally, I'm still preparing for my first craft show this fall.  I made a crapload of tissue holders, and there will be more small projects to come. as well  So, how was your weekend?

  1. They are looking gorgeous! I love that fabric line - I have made a few quilts in it myself and am hoarding the rest for some unknown future project. I can't wait to see yours all stitched together.
